About HodgePodgeCook

Some of you may be wondering what a Hodge Podge Cook is. It’s someone who gets the basics of cooking — what goes well together, how to season, and what can be left out or substituted — to the point that they can’t follow a recipe to the letter.

Yes, that means experimenting.

This “method” of cooking is something I picked up from my dad over the years. I can’t think of a single time when he could say with certainty exactly which ingredients went into a dish — never mind how much of each. But it never mattered because it was the best outcome and a big improvement on whatever recipe he started with.

Here’s what you can expect to find on this blog:

  • A source recipe,
  • The recipe I made,
  • And of course, gratuitous pictures.

This blog isn’t about following anything, except what your nose and tongue says is good.

If you’ve ever wanted to know how to alter a recipe twelve different ways or merely use a recipe as a suggestion, you’ve come to the right place.

Welcome to Hodge Podge Cook!
